Muscari Siberian Tiger Grape Hyacinth Bulbs

Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit

Muscari Siberian Tiger is an exceptional grape hyacinth variety that has quickly garnered acclaim. Known for its striking appearance and ease of naturalization, this newer variety is a must-have for gardeners who want to add a touch of elegance to their spring garden. When planted in the fall, these bulbs begin their journey in mid-spring, sprouting narrow, strap-shaped basal leaves that soon give way to small flower spikes. These spikes are adorned with grape-like clusters of pure white florets that open from lime green buds, creating a striking contrast as they sit atop leafless stems rising 6 to 8 inches tall. The fragrant blooms make lovely cuts for small bouquets and add a refined touch to floral displays.

As a member of the Muscari armeniacum family, commonly known as grape hyacinths, Siberian Tiger is a bulbous perennial that colonizes and naturalizes effortlessly. This variety is particularly well-suited for underplanting taller bulbs, where its low-growing habit and delicate white blooms provide a beautiful contrast. Muscari Siberian Tiger can be planted in mixed beds, borders, and containers where it can be appreciated up close. Its ability to self-seed under ideal conditions means that these charming blooms can spread naturally, bringing their beauty to your garden year after year.

Muscari Siberian Tiger is cold hardy to USDA Zone 4, a reliable choice for cooler climates. These bulbs are incredibly easy to grow and require minimal care, thriving for years with little maintenance. For best results, plant the bulbs 3 to 4 inches apart and 5 inches deep in a sunny to partially shady location with moist, free-draining soil. After planting, water the bulbs well to settle them in, and consider feeding them with a balanced fertilizer to support strong growth and flowering.

As the flowers begin to fade, remove them promptly to keep the plant looking tidy. But, allow the foliage to die back naturally, as the leaves continue to photosynthesize, storing energy for the next season’s growth. Once the foliage has fully wilted and turned a yellow or brown color, it can be removed. Muscari Siberian Tiger is generally pest-free and is resistant to deer and rodents, making it a low-maintenance and dependable addition to the garden.

Create a sophisticated underplanting for taller bulbs or add a delicate touch of white to your spring garden. Muscari Siberian Tiger offers a blend of beauty and resilience that will delight gardeners and cut flower fans.
