Iris Cherry Sugar Rush Siberian Iris

American Iris Society Award of Merit

Iris ‘Sugar Rush’ is a reblooming Siberian iris that grows 24 to 34 inches tall, offering waves of color from late spring through early summer. Each strong stem holds three exquisite bicolored flowers that rise above a graceful mound of blue-green, grass-like leaves, creating a bouquet-like display. The watermelon-pink petals are accented by a blue and purple wash, pearly pink highlights, and cheerful yellow signals. Weather variations add a delightful unpredictability to their hues, making every bloom unique. These fragrant flowers are ideal for cutting, adding soft charm to summer bouquets.

A cultivar of Iris sibirica, commonly called Siberian iris, ‘Sugar Rush’ is a hardy perennial that thrives in Zones 4-9. Perfect for naturalizing along ponds or wild garden edges, it also makes a stunning addition to flower beds and borders. Its ability to spread by rhizomes ensures it will bring beauty to your garden for years to come.

‘Sugar Rush’ performs best in sunny to lightly shaded spots with moist, well-draining, organically rich soil. It tolerates drier soil once established but benefits from consistent watering and a protective mulch of pine needles or wood chips. This variety flourishes in cooler climates and appreciates a winter chill for dormancy. Fertilize each spring to encourage robust growth and abundant blooms. Deadheading spent flowers extends blooming and keeps plants tidy.

Plant ‘Sugar Rush’ rhizomes with the ‘eyes’ just below the soil surface, spacing them 12 to 24 inches apart.
