Haukaas revitalizes her practice in her series Bedrock, River, Basket. Focused around earth tones as pertaining to those found in a lush riverbed, the Copenhagen-based painter explores the flow and symbolism in this body of water, the way it interacts with nature and the similarities that can be found in human rhythms and body parts.

One cannot bathe twice in the same river because already, in [her] inmost recesses, the human being shares the destiny of flowing water… a being dedicated to water is a being in flux. [She] dies every minute; something of [her] substance is constantly falling away. – Gaston Bachelard, Water and Dreams
