Why use fluoride-free toothpaste?

Though the ADA recommends using a fluoride toothpaste, there are a number of reasons you may not want to or shouldn’t. If you’re allergic to it, then fluoride is a non-starter. If you get enough in your municipal water supply, you run a risk of fluorosis, which can cause damage to your teeth and bones. Whatever toothpaste you use, you won’t get very far without a good toothbrush to go along with it.

What is a good alternative to fluoride?

There are a good number of natural ingredients that are good at cleaning teeth. Baking soda has been used for at least a century as a teeth cleaner. Silica can scrub your teeth clean, but It may be too harsh on weak enamel though. Many swear by activated charcoal, and everybody already knows that calcium is good for the teeth. Give all or some of these a try, or find a natural toothpaste that puts them all together.

Lets close the loop on packaging to ensure it doesnt end up in landfills or oceans

TerraCycle and Toms of Maine have partnered to create a national recycling program for typically hard-to-recycle waste streams. Reduce your impact on our planet – participation is simple and free.

Mouthwash bottles and caps, toothbrushes, deodorant containers and caps, soap packaging, floss containers, and toothpaste tubes and caps can be recycled through TerraCycle.

How to Start:

1. Create a Terracycle account. This is mandatory for participation and allows you to track your recycling and impact.
2. Collect your empties – no need to even rinse them out – and put them in an eco-friendly envelope, box or other container. Reuse packaging you already have for mailing.
3. Request and print your label from Terracycle.com
4. Ship!
