Planting & Care

Planting: Choose a location with full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil for your Bowhall Red Maple. Dig a hole that is at least twice the width of the root ball but no deeper than the roots height. Place the tree in the hole, ensuring that the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface, then backfill gently while removing air pockets. Water thoroughly after planting.

2. Watering: During the first growing season, ensure consistent moisture but avoid overwatering. Once established, the Bowhall Red Maple is relatively drought-tolerant, though it benefits from deep watering during prolonged dry spells. Monitor the soil moisture; it should be kept moderately moist, especially in the heat of summer.

3. Pruning: Prune your Bowhall Red Maple in late winter or early spring while it is still dormant to encourage a strong shape and remove any dead or crossing branches. This will help maintain its tidy, pyramidal form. Always use clean, sharp tools and cut at the branch collar to promote healthy healing.

4. Fertilizing: Fertilize in early spring with a balanced tree fertilizer to promote vigorous growth. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions on the type and amount to use. Regular applications during the first few years will support strong establishment, but established trees may require less frequent feeding.
